“Home-Start Wandsworth has been my rock, keeping me going through the tough times. The support was unparalleled. The entire team is just incredible, and their dedication is what makes Home-Start such an amazing service. They truly caught me before I could fall.”
Families today are facing unprecedented challenges. For families who were already experiencing adversity, the impact of the pandemic and the cost of living crisis have only compounded the pressures. More than 1 in 4 families in Wandsworth live in poverty. This means that thousands of children in our local community are going hungry, without a warm home, or without everyday essentials.
Home-Start Wandsworth provides tailored practical and emotional support to vulnerable families with children under the age of 5, so that they can give their children the best possible start in life. Our early childhoods, the time from pregnancy to five, fundamentally shape our whole lives. Home-Start makes sure those early years count and that no child’s future is limited.
We work with families who may be struggling with poor mental or physical health, isolation, financial hardship or post-natal depression. We foster a village of support and solidarity, preventing families from slipping into crisis. Through our home-visiting service we help to rebuild confidence and self-esteem, enabling parents to acquire expertise and resilience that they can use in the future. Our group activities reduce isolation and improve mental wellbeing by providing a safe environment for families to come together, creating a sense of community and belonging.
They say it takes a village to raise a child. By coming together to support the most vulnerable families in our community, we can give more children the chance of a brighter future.
