An exclusive tour of Hatfield House & Gardens on Wednesday 29 June for 4 people.
Hatfield House is a prime example of Jacobean architecture and is home to many objects associated with Queen Elizabeth I, including gloves and a pair of silk stockings believed to have been the first in England. The Marble Hall is also home to the most colourful Tudor painting of Queen Elizabeth I, known as the ‘Rainbow Portrait’.
You will also have the opportunity to visit The Marble Hall, with it’s stunning marble chequered board floor, The King James Drawing Room, The Long Gallery, The Library and much more. The Cecil family, headed by the Marquess of Salisbury, have lived at Hatfield House ever since it was built in 1611 by Robert Cecil, First Minister to both Queen Elizabeth I & King James I.
The gardens cover 42 acres and date back to early 17th century. During the first World War the gardens were used to test the first British tanks, now it is home to beautiful wildflowers, magnificent sculptures and stone carvings. You will have the opportunity to view Lord & Lady Salisbury's private Garden with its elegant parterres, topiary and rare plants and The Old Palace gardens where Queen Elizabeth I spent her youth.
The tour will begin at 11am on 29 June, starting with the garden tour led by Head Gardener, followed by a lunch at 1pm and then the tour of Hatfield House itself. The House & Gardens will not be open to the public this day and the tour will finish around 4pm.
Lunch will have an allowance of £15 per head, if guests wish to spend above the allowance then the surplus will be charged to the relevant guest. During lunch and if time allows then you will be shown around the Real Tennis Court, one of only 30 in the world, and, apart from Hampton Court, is the only one where visitors can watch a game being played. This is the perfect day out for history and nature lovers.
