Kentucky Own Straight Bourbon Batch #8

The biggest, boldest Kentucky Owl ever released. This bottle released in July 2018 is a heavy 121 proof and 60.5% with only 9051 bottles produced. The bourbon is made of four different distillates ranging from almost 5 years old, 8 years old, 11 years old and 14 years old. While a touch youthful by age, the 5-year-old liquid added a beautiful caramel and malty quality across the mid-palate that rounded out this blend.

The mouthful of Batch #8 is strong, rich, syrupy and the finish stays with you - working its way from the spice on the back towards the front of the palate after each sip. It has a smooth, complex character, with aromas of apples, cinnamon, vanilla and caramel. The palate is complex; creamy, spicy and sweet notes fighting for the lead. Initially vanilla and apple notes appear, before cinnamon and pepper take the lead. Caramel and creamy custard join the fray, alongside nutmeg and freshly-baked pastry.
