Over the years The Yabba Dabba Doo Ball has supported a range of projects at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, and this year we are fundraising for a fantastic new scanning and imaging centre at the hospital.
The Christie treats more than 60,000 patients a year and nearly every one of those patients will have a CT (computed tomography) scan at some point. As a result, the CT department is one of the busiest in the hospital. A CT scan uses x-rays and a computer to create detailed pictures of the inside of the body taken from different angles to make a 3D image. The current facilities are cramped with little privacy, and a confusing layout. The new ‘Advanced Scanning and Imaging Centre’ will be a state-of-the-art purpose built facility housing a high tech 4D CT scanner.
It will allow The Christie to scan more patients than ever before and reduce waiting times. It will also mean the scanning team can carry out procedures which enable it to target cancerous cells more precisely and offer more pioneering treatments and research. But in order to make this a reality, we need your support, so please dig deep and help The Christie give cancer patients the most advanced care and treatment they deserve.
