Sophie's Legacy charity was established in memory of 10-year-old Sophie Fairall, who passed away from cancer in 2021. Sophie knew she was dying and made her mum promise to fight for changes that would improve the experience of children in hospitals.
The charity supports families with hospitalised children by providing essential items such as food, toiletries, and clothing. It also advocates for improvements in paediatric healthcare, including seven-day access to play specialists and better hospital food for children. Another key initiative is ensuring parents staying overnight are provided with meals. Additionally, Sophie's Legacy pushes for better training for healthcare professionals in childhood cancer care and increased funding for paediatric cancer research.
The money raised from the charity ball tonight will fund two full-time family support workers in Southampton Hospital, ensuring families receive the emotional and practical support they need during their stays.
