About Sarcoma UK
Sarcomas are uncommon cancers that can affect any part of the body, on the inside or outside, including the muscle, bone, tendons, blood vessels and fatty tissues.
In the UK, 15 people will be diagnosed with sarcoma cancer every day, including children and young adults. They face immense challenges with sarcoma - an aggressive and too often overlooked cancer. Due to the lack of awareness, understanding and investment, sarcoma is still difficult to diagnose and treat. The consequences of this are clear; the 5-year survival rate for sarcoma is just 55%.
Sarcoma UK funds vital research, campaigns for better treatments, and offers support for everyone affected by sarcoma.
We fund world-class research to understand sarcoma better, improve treatments and make a difference to the lives of people affected by sarcoma. Since 2009, we have invested more than £8 million into nearly 100 research projects. Our research has uncovered answers to why people become resistant to chemotherapy drugs, found ways to make sarcoma more sensitive to treatment, and explored strategies to help people cope with living and beyond their cancer.
We provide expert advice, information and emotional support to everyone affected by sarcoma. The Sarcoma UK Support Line was founded in 2016 and has since had over 25,000 calls, texts and emails from over 5000 people.
We raise awareness of sarcoma, educate healthcare professionals and the public so that people are diagnosed earlier and have a better chance of surviving sarcoma.
For every pound we spend, 73p is put into research, information/support and education about sarcoma. We rely on your generosity and support to make our work possible and make a difference to people's lives.
