YOUR SUPPORT: IMPACT
We could not do the work we do and impact the lives that are transformed through our programmes without the engagement and generosity of our supporters. Rafiki Thabo is a small, transparent and very lean charity with minimal operating costs. As such the absolute majority of our income goes directly to the children and young people we support.
We receive no Government funding, and as such fundraising events, like our Family Fun Day, are instrumental to our ongoing work to empower disadvantaged children and young people to fulfil their potential and improve their life opportunities through education.
Young people like Praise...
Praise developed an illness when she was very young, it was perfectly treatable, but sadly her family could not afford the medication. As a result at 8 years old, Praise lost her eyesight. Her terror and heartache didn’t stop there. She was abandoned by her father due to the shame and stigma of her disability, leaving her mother penniless fighting to put food on the table for Praise and her siblings. Years went by, but then, fortunately, we heard about Praise and at 20 years old she was finally able to enter secondary education, with our support. Praise's story is not over, she wants to go to university, she wants to become a lawyer and fight for the rights of blind people in Uganda, she wants to fight corruption. We can’t wait to follow Praise as she realises her dreams! It cost Rafiki Thabo £350 per year to support Praise through secondary school.
It takes so little to do so much!
- A single ticket to our Family Fun Day costs £5 – that will pay for 14 days of hot, nutritious school meals for the poorest children at out link school in Uganda, enabling them to have the energy to focus in lessons and take on the long walk to and from school.
- Make a bid of £150 in our silent auction, and if you are the winning bidder, you can feel great not only because you secured that fabulous item you wanted, but also because you have paid for a child in Lesotho to attend school for 6 months.
- A winning auction bid of £350 will pay for an entire year at secondary school for a disadvantaged child in Uganda, who would otherwise remain out of school as their family simply cannot afford to pay the school fees… The cost of one year at secondary school equates to two-thirds of the average total annual household income in Uganda!
- See something you like in our silent auction which is worth £1,000 to you? Go for it, knowing that you will singlehandedly enable a young person in Kenya to attend university for a year!
- Fancy holding a garden party for 50 people? Check it out in our auction prize list! A winning bid of £3,250 would not only guarantee a fabulous evening for you and your friends and family but pay for 70 children to receive school meals for half a year!
